History:
CHIP (CHildren In Pain) was founded in 1997 by a group of educationists and doctors in Kolkata. The group was formed to fulfill the dream of a better life for children in this country. Focusing on health and education, CHIP Kolkata began with a small child and parent counseling programme and has since expanded to include a full sponsored school, a medical and educational centre called CHIP House, regular health camps, educational interventions in 14 schools, vocational training and more, reaching out to over 1 lakh beneficiaries each year.

CHIP Mumbai was launched on the 5th of February 2004 in partnership with the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) school system. The chapter was founded by Dr. Sunita Banerji, Ms. Poonam Jaju and Ms. Kunika Lall in an effort to work with these schools that cater to some of the most disadvantaged groups in Mumbai. The efforts began with the adoption and subsequent renovation of the Prateeksha Nagar school. This Urdu and Hindi medium primary school has a thriving program, but the work is far from finished. CHIP Mumbai is currently expanding its portfolio through more projects and school adoption.
